About the project of Lucia

My project involves the preparation of capsules containing enzymatic- and photo-cleavable linkers, which require elegant synthetic protocols. Various small molecules or biological cargoes (e.g. anti-inflammatory drugs or growth factors) will then be spatially encapsulated within these stimuli-sensitive nanocarriers. I will use an array of chemical and physical characterization techniques (e.g. NMR, GPC, FTIR, Raman Spectroscopy, SEM, TEM) to analyse this class of materials, assess their structure-function properties and evaluate their potential for physiological deployment. Antibodies will be used to functionalise the surface of these systems to impart targeting capabilities. The synthetic control used in this project will deliver a new class of nanocarriers designed for therapeutic applications.
